About
My name is Amy and I am 41 years old. I have a total Of 6 children/step-children combined. I originally went college to become a nurse, which is when I obtained my CNA license (no longer active). However, I ended up working 20 years in adult corrections as a corrections officer/sergeant. During that time I worked in many hospital settings that required me to assist adults in daily activities just as a nurse/nurse’s aide would do, including dispensing medications, using hoyer lifts for transfers, wound care, etc… I worked at WakeMed for a while as a CNA before I went into corrections. When I was a teenager/young adult I cared for my elderly, disabled grandmother for many years. She had one leg amputated and required a prosthetic to walk. I assisted her with her physical therapy while she was recovering and learning to walk again. I have worked with mental health patients diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, manic depression, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, etc… I have also experienced these disorders through family members who suffered from one or more of them.
